Lekkerwater Beach Lodge began in 1939 as a family holiday home and later served as the coastal retreat of former President FW de Klerk.
It sits in a private sector of De Hoop Nature Reserve with 6 kilometres of beach to itself. Each chalet has its own verandah and a log burner, and there is a double-storey family room for those travelling with children. Whales are in the bay from May to October, with numbers peaking between August and October. Days are spent hiking, cycling through the reserve and birding, with 260 species recorded.
