Walkways through an old milkwood forest lead to the 16 freestanding suites at Grootbos Forest Lodge, set high on a hill above Walker Bay.
Each suite has a fireplace, a private deck and an en-suite bathroom, with views across the fynbos to the sea. The main lodge has a heated infinity pool, a gym and a spa with 3 treatment rooms, 1 of them for couples. Meals move between the ocean-view restaurant, the wine cellar and a boma in the forest. Days on the reserve can include botanical 4x4 tours, horse riding, coastal trips, guided walks and whale watching.
